Radiosurgery: current recommendations for intracranial lesions and practices in pakistan
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background: Radiosurgery is defined as the use of high-dose ionizing radiation for precise and total destruction of a chosen target, avoiding concomitant or delayed harm to adjacent tissues. The three types of radiations include gamma rays (GammaKnife) by Cobalt-60, X8 rays using linear accelerator (LINAC) system, and charged-particles generated from synchocyclotron. Recommendations: Based on current evidence, radiosurgery has proven benefits as the treatment of certain brain metastases, vestibular schwannomas, meningiomas, and some skull base tumors. Conclusion: This review describes the current recommendations for use of radiosurgery for intracranial pathologies. Radiosurgery is a relatively newer modality in the developing country of Pakistan. Much work is needed to increase awareness and promote its use as and when indicated.

Development of A Head Docking Device for Linac-based Stereotactic Radiosurgery System to be Installed on Neptun 10 PC Linac
Introduction: Stereotactic radiosurgery is a technique for the treatment of intracranial lesions with highly collimated x-ray beam. Linac-based radiosurgery is currently performed by two techniques: couch or pedestal mounted. In the first technique, a device is required to affix patient's head to a couch and moreover to translate it accurately. Structure of suc...
متن کاملStereotactic Radiosurgery/Radiotherapy: A Historical Review
"Stereotactic" is an exact radiotherapy treatment modality which implements invasive and non-invasive facilities for improving precise dose delivery. Stereotactic refers to three-dimensional localization of a specific point in space by a unique set of coordinates that relate to a fixed external reference frame. An accurate delivery of radiation is attainable using these techniques with high pre...

Radiosurgery is defined as the use of highly focused beams of radiation to ablate a pathologic target, thus achieving a surgical objective by noninvasive means. Recent advances have allowed a wide variety of intracranial lesions to be effectively treated with radiosurgery, and radiosurgical treatment has been accepted as a standard part of the neurosurgical armamentarium. The advent of frameles...
متن کاملReview of Stereotactic Radiosurgery for Intramedullary Spinal Lesions
Stereotactic radiosurgery (SR) represents an increasingly utilized modality in the treatment of intracranial and extracranial pathologies. Stereotactic spine radiosurgery (SSR) uses an alternative strategy to increase the probability of local control by delivering large cumulative doses of radiation therapy (RT) in only a few fractions. SSR in the treatment of intramedullary lesions remains in ...
